For Bedrock Edition and Java Edition users, the 1.18 update radically overhauled the game. What's the difference between the two versions' upgrades, though?

From Java Edition to Bedrock Edition, Minecraft 1.18 has a few changes.

There are several changes between Bedrock and Java Edition. Java Edition users have better access to add-ons and are able to utilize modifications, whereas Bedrock players are unable to do so. Educational Edition and Education features are available to Bedrock players, but not to Java.

The 1.18 update, on the other hand, introduced one important modification to Minecraft that made the two versions more comparable. Seeds used to be unique to each edition before the change. On Bedrock Edition, a Java Edition globe seed would not work.

Seeds have become a global phenomenon. In a Bedrock Edition world, a seed located in a Java Edition world will remain the same. However, the 1.18 version of Minecraft for both platforms has a few important changes.

Stone produces until Y level 0 in Bedrock Edition, then switches to deepslate until level -7, at which point it is entirely deepslate. The shift from stone to deepslate starts at Y level 8, and it becomes deepslate at Y level 0.

When upgrading an old world in Minecraft Java Edition, the game does extra checks to see if new pieces should be added. If players began a world before 1.18 and then upgraded it, certain parts, particularly underground, would remain the same.

Minecraft Java Edition users, on the other hand, will be able to transfer more easily from old to new worlds owing to the 1.18 update.

The remainder of the upgrade is mostly the same, with new biomes and world creation, and all of the major changes are consistent across all versions.
